INK DRIVE

Inkthology - the Ink Pot Studios anthology - was launched this week at Dundee Comics Creative Space.

There were DeeCAP performances from Damon Herd, Norrie Millar, and Andrew Strachan.

I read my story from the anthology, "Ink Drive":

After the performances, Olivia Hicks moderated a discussion on anthologies with Letty Wilson, myself, and Catriona Laird.
I talked about Lewis Trondheim's "Boomerang", from Fantagraphics' Measles anthology, and about my own experiences working for anthologies.

INKTHOLOGY

A new anthology is out now from the comics creators at The Ink Pot studio, Dundee.

It's edited by Norrie Millar and Damon Herd, and features all new work from Kathryn Briggs, Zu Dominiak, Andy Herd, Rebecca Horner, Catriona Laird, Ashling Larkin, Seumidh MacDonald, Monty Nero, Helen Robinson, Andrew Strachan, Gary Welsh, Letty Wilson, and Norrie himself.

I did a story too, called Ink Drive.

A really nice collection!

24 HOUR COMIC DAY Volume 3

I took part in this event again this weekend, making 24 pages in 24 hours. Alongside Zu Dominiak and Olivia Hicks, we started at 10am Saturday, working through the night in the Ink Pot studio within Dundee Comics Creative Space.

As last year, I charted my progress online in real time. Here's a summation of how it went, with my photos and comments from Twitter and Facebook:

11.26am: Oh boy. It's 24 hour Comics day again. Let's go!

12.15pm: 24 hour comic day continues. 10 pages of layouts done. Pages 11 to 24 planned out.

12.58pm: 24 pages layouts done. Lunchtime!

3.23pm: 6 pages black and white artwork done. Gonna splash some colour paint on these once all 24 are done in b&w.

5.17pm: Page 7-9. Going out for a walk now. 24 hour Comics, ye bas!

7.51pm: Page 10 and 11. It's time for junk food.

10.58pm: Presenting pages 12 to 14 of this 24 hour comic venture.

1.56am: 24 hour comic pages 15-20. Giant dog.

3.20am: Last 4 pages inked for 24 hour comic day. Gonna take a break and then put some paint on.

8.54am: 24 hour comic day day done and dusted. I love doing this - it's insane. Over and out til next time!

Well done to Zu and Olivia who also completed their 24 page comics.
I hope to take part in this again next year and beyond.

UOD 50 YEAR MURAL

The University of Dundee is celebrating its 50 year anniversary. To mark the occasion Dundee Comics Creative Space and Ink Pot artists Elliot Balson, Anna Coughlan, Damon Herd, Rebecca Horner, Catriona Laird, Norrie Millar, Andy Strachan and myself designed a mural running across part of the campus floor.

The mural is split into sections, each highlighting important events from down the decades. The artists chose topics to work on. I picked keyhole surgery which was pioneered at the university in 1998.

We were given 2 colours to use (3 if the grey of the slabs was included). Our designs were to be turned into stencils.

REWORKING WALTER SCOTT

Today was the launch of Reworking Walter Scott, as part of an event at the University of Dundee.

It includes comics from Monica Burns, Damon Herd, Rebecca Horner, Norrie Millar, and Helen Robinson. There is art from Elliot Balson, Catriona Laird, Ashling Larkin and Andrew Strachan. There are also essays from Lucy Linforth and Chris Murray.

It's a nice package, and I am glad to be in there too with a four page comic called "Patriotism".

It was nice to see a page of mine blown up to poster size.

TWO COMIC READINGS!

As part of an event which was the launch of both the H.G. Wells anthology comic and the newly rebranded Ink Pot studio, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony and a certificates presentation before a series of comics performances from Damon Herd's DeeCAP began. This included performances from Kathryn Briggs, Andy Herd, Stuart McAdam, Norrie Millar, Damon himself, and me.

I did two readings. The first was a story I wrote and drew previously - "Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds: an Introduction", and the second - "George vs Herbert", was done specifically for "Time & Space".
