THAT COMIC SMELL: Remote Meet Up

Latest episode is up now!

From the web:

“What the hell is an internet?”
Hello everyone. That Comic Smell is joining the ranks of many other fine podcasts by going remote. Yes, we are unfortunately stuck like this for the next while so hope you all don’t mind our attempt at chatting over Skype. We finally get a chance to catch up and chat some good old fashioned comics. What we’ve been reading whilst stuck in doors. How we are all getting on with being indoors. How there are silver linings to every bad situation and a lot less chomping. None of us had any food. No Biscuits. No tea. It’s not right!

As a little bonus, head across to our Twitter (@ThatComicSmell) to get a daily recommendation from our very own Fernando (#NandosComicOfTheDay)

This and all the usual comics chat on…

TERRAHAWKS page 2 inks

I'm inking page 2 of my Terrahawks comic today.

Generally, when I'm inking, I do the lettering and panel borders first.

Above is the page, ready to start drawing the pictures.

Planning to finish the inks on this today and start painting colour on tomorrow.

TERRAHAWKS pencils

I'm doing a Terrahawks comic for Sequential 21, which will be devoted to various Gerry Anderson TV shows, and published by Fred McNamara and Unity City Press.

I wanted to do Terrahawks based on a memory of liking it when it was on, and a couple of memories about the contents.

Yesterday I watched the first three episodes, and looked at some TV21 comic stories to get inspiration on how it will be.

So, two pages, full colour, painted. Straight ahead adventure story as if it's one weekly installment of a larger story.

I'm also going to include an ad for Terrahawks action figures.

Here are the page one pencils, completed today.

SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY page 2 pencils

More pencils.

A lot of text, and a lot of ideas to fit on here.

I did a lot of juggling, and am pretty happy with the layout now.

I will be doing a couple of tweaks in Photoshop to create more space.

I will get down to inking pages 1 and 2 next.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW? by Brian Fies

Today's reading outside in the sun.
The first chapter of "Whatever Happened to the World of Tomorrow?" by Brian Fies.

The story begins with a father and son's visit to the 1939 New York World's Fair.
We see their excitement and trepidation at the future presented to them (the city of 1960!).

At the fair they buy a comic book specially made for the fair called Space Age Adventures.
It is presented here as if it has been stuck into this book.
Space Age Adventures has its own paper stock different than the rest of Whatever Happened to...

Off to a good start. Hope it's sunny tomorrow, for another read outside.
